Role Overview

The Data Scientist – AI Engineer will lead the integration of artificial intelligence into NATO’s wargaming operations, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to design, test, and implement innovative AI solutions. Responsibilities include developing strategies for AI integration, real-time analytics, and human-machine teaming, while ensuring data security and compliance with NATO standards. This role requires a hands-on expert with a deep understanding of AI frameworks, wargaming methodologies, and a proven ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • AI Integration: Contribute to integrating AI into NATO’s wargaming efforts and collaborate with experts to identify opportunities for enhancement.
  • Roadmap Development: Develop a strategy for AI integration into wargaming simulations.
  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Implement methods for data collection, analysis, and real-time visualizations to support decision-making during simulations.
  • Human-Machine Teaming: Design tools for effective collaboration between humans and AI.
  • Experimentation: Conduct experiments to test AI applications in wargaming scenarios and present findings.
  • Content Development: Create multimedia content for training and preparatory materials using AI tools.
  • Training & Support: Support NATO personnel training on AI in wargaming and explore AI applications for automation.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 30 days annually for meetings, conferences, and exercises.


Qualifications

  • Essentials
    • Active Secret Clearance
    • Nationality: Must be a citizen of a NATO member country.
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, ML, AI, or related fields (Master’s preferred). Alternatively, 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 4 years in Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI (5+ years preferred).
    • Proven expertise in integrating AI technologies into real-world applications (3+ years required, 5+ years preferred).
    • Experience with generative AI models, especially Large Language Models (LLMs).
    • Proficiency in tools such as Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn.
    • Understanding of wargaming principles and methodologies.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Proven collaboration in interdisciplinary teams.
    • Expertise in managing AI-related projects from planning to execution and reporting.
    • Knowledge of data security principles and best practices.
